2013 AIA and APA Joint Annual Meeting - Seattle, WA

We invite you to take part in the Joint Annual Meeting (AM) of the Archaeological Institute of America and the American Philological Association, January 3-6, 2013 which will be held in the heart of Seattle, Washington at the Washington State Convention Center. The AM has grown tremendously over the past decade not only in attendance, but also in the scope of papers presented, demographic of attendees, and focus on professional development, cultural heritage management, new technologies and other topics of critical importance to the field. Each January more than 3,000 attendees from over 30 countries and nearly every state in the union attend this Joint Annual Meeting, allowing for the exchange of knowledge and ideas between top professionals in the field, post-doctoral, graduate, and undergraduate students, as well as archaeology enthusiasts, ARCHAEOLOGY magazine subscribers, and AIA local society members. This will be the 114th Annual Meeting for the AIA and the 144th Annual Meeting for the APA. Programming for the AM has been skillfully crafted by the Program for the Annual Meeting Committees of both organizations. These esteemed panels, comprised of experts in related fields, carefully review submissions and with the institutes create a three-day program with over 200 events and more than 800 speakers, including:

Nearly 1,000 hopeful presenters have submitted abstracts for inclusion in the academic programs. In addition to our regular session formats, several new sessions are being introduced in the 2013 program including a Poster Colloquium, Graduate Student "Lightning Session," and dedicated sessions for undergraduate poster and paper presentations. We expect an attendance of 2,400-3,000 people in Seattle, following last year's record-breaking attendance of over 3,000, which included more than 600 first-time attendees and a thirty percent increase from international participants.

New Lighting Session Call for Presenters! Deadline - November 15, 2012
There is still time to participate in the 2013 AM Academic Program with the introduction of the Lightning Session. This fast-paced, informal session gives participants an opportunity to deliver a 5-minute talk on their current research, a specific case-study, or methodological problem to an interdisciplinary audience and get feedback from a wide variety of colleagues, with an emphasis on interaction and networking. The session is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 4 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Full details and submission forms are available in the Call for Papers section.
