S. Korean culture minister: Return stolen Buddha statues to Japan

THE ASAHI SHIMBUN

GWANGJU, South Korea--Two designated cultural properties stolen from Japan and smuggled into South Korea should be returned, South Korea’s culture minister said.

The South Korean judicial system has yet to reach a conclusion on what to do with a bronze standing statue of Tathagata Buddha, stolen from Kaijinjinja shrine in Tsushima, Nagasaki Prefecture, and a seated statue of the Kanzeon Bodhisattva, snatched from Kannonji temple, also in Tsushima.
