A Fall River man whose house was a personal museum crammed with stolen artifacts is headed to a federal penitentiary.

John Mark Tillmann, 52, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Halifax to 40 criminal charges.

Justice John Murphy adopted a joint recommendation from lawyers and sentenced Tillmann to nine years in prison, minus just over a year’s credit for the eight months he spent on remand.

And the punishment didn’t stop there. Tillmann agreed to forfeit to the Crown his $440,000 mortgage-free home, a bank account containing almost $300,000, two cars and a tractor.
