Board of Directors: Hilary A. Soderland

Hilary A. Soderland is an attorney and Registered Professional Archaeologist whose work focuses on archaeology, cultural heritage, and the law.  She advises individuals, international organizations, professional societies, and governmental officials in the US and abroad Her museum work on three continents has encompassed curation, accessioning protocol, exhibition preparation, and legal compliance.  Soderland’s publications include articles, commissioned work, and co-edited books on archaeology legislation, cultural heritage law, repatriation, and archaeological resource protection and heritage management.  She regularly teaches and lectures on these subjects to both US and international audiences.  Soderland is a summa cum laude graduate of Wellesley College and received her MPhil and PhD from the University of Cambridge as a Gates Cambridge Scholar and her JD from the University of California-Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law.  She is a member of the Washington State Bar.
